Cleaning Instruction for HARO Timber Flooring

1. Simply use a broom or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dry

2. Then use a microfibre mop to clean sticky spots or tougher dirt.  Add ½ teaspoon of “Clean & Green Natural” to 1 litre of COLD water and wring out the mop head well so the microfibre pad is ONLY DAMP.  DO NOT use a SOAKING WET mop.  Then simply damp-mop the floor.  You should get approximately 40x cleans per bottle. Clean & Green Natural is environmentally friendly and adds a protective film to your floor.

3. Every now and again (say once a month) give your floor a more intensive clean and for this we recommend “Clean & Green Active”. Apply this in the same way as the Natural   Afterwards, mop again with Clean & Green Natural which adds that protective layer to your floor.

4. To protect your timber floor, we recommend that once a year you apply either Clean & Green Aqua Shield for a polyurethane floor or Clean & Green Aqua Oil (for an oiled floor). This protects your floor from moisture penetration, or drying out and then absorbing spills. Simply mop onto your floor and leave to dry for 2 hours before walking on it.  Please note that these products are applied ‘neat’ i.e. not diluted in water.   It is best to clean your floor with Clean & Green Active just prior to this protection treatment.

Tips for protecting your Timber Floor

  • DO NOT USE HOT/WARM WATER (COLD WATER ONLY)
  • DO NOT USE A WET MOP (JUST DAMP)
  • DO NOT USE A STEAM CLEANER – steam is not good for wooden floors, it expands the grain/fibres and allows dirt and moisture to penetrate and stay put.
  • DO NOT LET WATER STAND ON YOUR FLOOR (pets’ water bowls or plant pots could hide water underneath!)
  • DO NOT drag heavy furniture along the floor, lift it.
  • Use felt pads on chairs, tables, stands and the like.
  • Stones caught up on shoe soles can damage floors. Have mats at entry points to your home.

Care & Cleaning Frequently Asked Questions

How hot should the mop water be?

Using cold water is best to ensure optimal care for your floor. The clean & green floor cleaners are especially designed for use in cold water so you should ideally use cold water to mop your floor. The advantage is that cold water dries more slowly and evenly on the floor’s surface so that mopping leaves no smears or streaks.

How damp is damp?

Timber, laminate, etc. should be damp cleaned. So what exactly does damp mean?

Damp, as you can imagine it, in the sense of the hazy mist that forms on the floor or mirror after a luxurious bath or shower. In terms of your floor cloth or wet-mop head then, this means wring it out thoroughly – in fact so vigorously that there is scarcely any water remaining. This is the optimal mop dampness for wiping your floor.

Will damp mopping really clean my floor?

Yes, it will. Thanks to the special composition of the clean & green cleaner, very little water is needed to effectively remove dirt from your floor. “The more the better”? – That’s a cliché that you can finally erase from your vocabulary with clean & green.

What's the best way to mop my floor?

In general this is what you should do: first, remove all loose dirt and dust with a broom or a vacuum cleaner using the appropriate attachment for parquet floors. Then take a bucket with five litres of cold water and add ½ a dosage cap of clean & green cleaner. Dampen a suitable wiping cloth or mop head with the prepared cleaning solution and wipe your floor in the direction of installation. This will give you the best cleaning results without smears and without having to mop again.

Our tip: clean from top to bottom.
This means: first remove dust or dirt from shelves, worktops and tables and finally clean your floor.

Why are there always smears remaining after mopping?

You mop and mop again, yet there are still streaks and smears remaining on your floor? You simply cannot remove these? This is generally because there are still dirt particles in or on the floor or because the mop head or wiping cloth is too dirty. Wash out your mop head thoroughly and mop your floor again. Repeat this process until there are no more streaks remaining. It is best to use cold water for mopping (optimally with clean & green active or natural ). Or use cold clear water and damp mop your floor again.

An incorrect dosage amount of the floor cleaner can also cause unsightly smears or streaks. You should, therefore, make sure that you always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the correct dosage of your floor cleaner in order to ensure streak-free cleaning results. Your cloth is clean and you have used the correct dosage of floor cleaner and yet there are still streaks? It may still be because of your cleaning cloth. That’s because using fabric softeners in conjunction with cleaning agents can lead to unsightly smears. Therefore: never use fabric softeners when washing your cleaning cloths.

Is there anything I need to look out for when mopping if I have underfloor heating?

Yes, there is actually. Switch off the underfloor heating when mopping your floor. This is because the heat generated in the floor by the underfloor heating dries the floor too quickly and unsightly smears or streaks form. Therefore: turn off the underfloor heating when mopping.

This was the easiest process I've been involved in. Their showroom is fantastic - so many different flooring options laid out and very knowledgeable staff able to talk me through the pros and cons and my budget. They turned up on the day and laid my beautiful Haro flooring and oh my it's gorgeous. I would thoroughly recommend Haro Flooring, I'm uploading a photo to show how gorgeous it is in my newly renovated Arrowtown cottage. Thanks everyone Kaye Parker

Great service, efficient and friendly, and really solid quality laminate floor. I have had the entirety of my holiday rental home layed with an Haro laminate and despite the high turn over of guests, including children, babies and dogs, it is still in pristine condition. Thanks again Graeme and Vicky for flawless experience.
